And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

And the LORD said, My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

And it came to pass in the morning that his Spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.

And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them: and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the Spirit of Jacob their father revived:

And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel: but they hearkened not unto Moses for anguish of Spirit, and for cruel bondage.

And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the Spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron's garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office.

And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,

And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his Spirit made willing, and they brought the LORD'S offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the holy garments.

And he hath filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship;

A man also or woman that hath a familiar Spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.

And the Spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled: or if the Spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be not defiled:

Or when the Spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be jealous over his wife, and shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law.

And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the Spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.

And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.

But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the Spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.

And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD'S people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his Spirit upon them!

But my servant Caleb, because he had another Spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;

But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD thy God hardened his Spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as appeareth this day.

But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him.

Then God sent an evil Spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:

Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.

And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.

And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.

And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father's house.

And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful Spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.

And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.

Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil Spirit from the LORD troubled him.

And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil Spirit from God troubleth thee.

Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil Spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.

And it came to pass, when the evil Spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil Spirit departed from him.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil Spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul's hand.

And the evil Spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand.

And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.

And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar Spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar Spirit at Endor.

And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar Spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee.

And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his Spirit came again to him: for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights.

The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD; there was no more Spirit in her.

And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of the LORD shall carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he shall slay me: but I thy servant fear the LORD from my youth.

But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said unto him, Why is thy Spirit so sad, that thou eatest no bread?

And there came forth a Spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him.

And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying Spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.

Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying Spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.

But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?

And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy Spirit be upon me.

And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The Spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.

And the God of Israel stirred up the Spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the Spirit of Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, unto this day.

So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar Spirit, to enquire of it;

Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the captains, and he said, Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thine helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.

And the pattern of all that he had by the Spirit, of the courts of the house of the LORD, and of all the chambers round about, of the treasuries of the house of God, and of the treasuries of the dedicated things:

And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel; his cupbearers also, and their apparel; and his ascent by which he went up into the house of the LORD; there was no more Spirit in her.

And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:

Then there came out a Spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will entice him. And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith?

And he said, I will go out, and be a lying Spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And the LORD said, Thou shalt entice him, and thou shalt also prevail: go out, and do even so.

Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying Spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil against thee.

Moreover the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the Spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that were near the Ethiopians:

And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you.

And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar Spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the Spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

Yet many years didst thou forbear them, and testifiedst against them by thy Spirit in thy prophets: yet would they not give ear: therefore gavest thou them into the hand of the people of the lands.

Then a Spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:

For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinketh up my Spirit: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my Spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

Thou hast granted me life and favour, and thy visitation hath preserved my Spirit.

That thou turnest thy Spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth?

I have heard the check of my reproach, and the Spirit of my understanding causeth me to answer.

As for me, is my complaint to man? and if it were so, why should not my Spirit be troubled?

To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose Spirit came from thee?

By his Spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.

All the while my breath is in me, and the Spirit of God is in my nostrils;

But there is a Spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

For I am full of matter, the Spirit within me constraineth me.

The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his Spirit and his breath;

Into thine hand I commit my Spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose Spirit there is no guile.

The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite Spirit.

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right Spirit within me.

Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy Spirit from me.

Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free Spirit.

The sacrifices of God are a broken Spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

He shall cut off the Spirit of princes: he is terrible to the kings of the earth.
